Intro to Level 2 Webinar Oct-Nov 2022

We held a great 4 week webinar on Exploring Level 2 strokes to the SUMCHI Community. Some users were already practicing Level 2 and some were just there to learn more, it was a series of 4 videos breaking down a full Level 2 Session.

A little more on the horse we have in our video session. On our recent trip to Scotland, we recorded a complete Level 2 Stroke Routine. Sue brought her lovely mare Tanasia in for a SUMCHI Workshop and Tanasia had a lot to teach and share with us.
This was Sue’s feedback: I thought you would like to know the huge change in my mare Tanasia that you helped whilst you were at Tullich. Laura gave her a massage the following week using the Sumchi6 and her hands and Tanasia was very happy to have all of her under belly, between front and back legs given a really good rub, previously a “no go area”. She was in ecstasy with it all and has continued with this enjoyment every time I do it now. Her shape has changed, not such a huge round belly, more oval shaped, ie slimmer at the sides. She is also doing much more mutual grooming with her best mate Ulli. Tanasia’s expression has also changed. So it is wonderful to see and thank you very much for spending time with her and helping so much.

Some Q&A from the videos have been added

Q: Would you suggest working on horses before riding them or is after also beneficial?

A: Several people use SUMCHI before riding or playing/ competing. I think it becomes a personal preference… here in HK, I do a lot of work post gallop/race and 2 days before competing. The final vet check is the morning before racing, I prefer not to work on horses after that check. Thoughts on using SUMCHI before exercise/ competing….to warm up the tissues/ increase blood supply or shall I say, to activate capillary action. Maybe connect with areas that you know are commonly inactive or tight (topline/hamstrings). After exercise/competing … to help improve a performance issue/ readjust a problem area/ help recover and prepare for the next day.

Q: Hi Beth. My horse absolutely loved the 🦓 , he leaned with whole hind end into the Sumchi6 and licked and chewed a lot. With all three strokes the skin/fascia on his hindquarters rippled, I am unsure what that means.

A: This is great news, the “granny skin” indicates that you are shifting the tissues and making space for healthier cells. The body just needs time to create the cells to improve the elasticity of fascia/skin. With the 🐸 🦓 and db strokes you are in interacting with the systems that help operate the hip, stifle, and hock. This should in turn help maintain a balance to the SI and Lumbar area🧲

Q: I have noticed When I do the 1/2 moon – fan – butterfly 1/2 way my horses really reacts by grinding his teeth – what should I change

A: Even if you pass over the skin, without making a connection you should improve the tissues due to moving the magnetism of the Sumchi6. If you are moving towards the girth region and she is showing discomfort she is probably indicating sensitivity of muscles and tension in the fascia system that goes under the scapula. The Level 2 SCOOP LOOP will help with this as well as Level 3 OCTOPUS Stroke. I would also suggest BIRDIE because BIRDIE helps activate (lift and engage) the ventral muscles. This will help to take pressure/tension off the tight muscles/ tissues in the girth region. Also when you are in BUTTERFLY and get to the last rib, remember to stroke up the last rib and continue back to the wither/ scapula area…this will help lift the abdominals and start to create elasticity through the barrel/trunk of horse this also helps alleviate excess tension on the muscles/tissues in the girth.

F: Just to give you feed back on my “grinding teeth Equine “- I have worked on him most days and the improvement is so positive. I can see a change every time I treat him.

Q: Up until now, I always did all the strokes (level 1) during a Sumchi6 session. Do I now just add the level 2 strokes? Are there strokes that you always do? Is the order of strokes important?

A: Yes Level 2 stroke routine builds on Level 1

Q: If I don’t have help can I tie my horse up – any suggestions for that?

A: Spare hand should be kept on the horse, you are creating a circuit for the energy flow, as you would with electricity. I drape my lead rope over the neck on the side that I am working on. This way if they are expressive or move away I can easily reach the lead rope.
